Posted on 14 June 2015 | 2 CommentsMembers of the Croydon Cycling Campaign have joined forces with “20s plenty” and the “Grange Hill Road Community” to back the council’s plans to introduce 20mph speed limits on residential roads in Croydon North. We have been speaking to residents outside the rail station in Thornton Heath, handing out flyers and delivering leaflets to houses in the area. We’ve met residents as young as 6 and as old as 93 and the response has been overwhelmingly supportive. We’ve listened to people’s concerns about speeding and noise on residential streets and helped them complete the council’s […]

Posted on 29 April 2015 | No CommentsThe CTC has been helping cyclists question their election candidates ahead of the 2015 general election. In Croydon South, responses have been received by Peter Underwood of the Green Party. No responses have at present been received for Labour, Conservatives, Liberal Democrats or UKIP. Peter Underwood – Green Party The Green Party is the most cycle-friendly party. We prioritise active travel and public transport as these promote public health, reduce road danger and help clean up our air, making towns cities and villages into more pleasant places to live – as well as their contribution […]

Posted on 29 April 2015 | 1 CommentThe CTC has been helping cyclists question their election candidates ahead of the 2015 general election. In Croydon Central, responses have been received by Sarah Jones of the Labour Party, James Robert Fearnley of the Liberal Democrats, Gavin Barwell of the Conservative Party and April Ashley of TUSC. No responses have at present been received for Green party or UKIP Sarah Jones – Labour I love cycling and it’s something everyone should be able to enjoy safely. I believe ‘active travel’ can and should be the default option for short journeys, but I agree we […]

Posted on 29 April 2015 | 1 CommentThe CTC has been helping cyclists question their election candidates ahead of the 2015 general election. In Croydon North, responses have been received by Shasha Khan of the Green Party and Steve Reed of the Labour party. No responses have at present been received for Conservatives, UKIP, Liberal Democrats or TUSC. Shasha Khan – Green I started cycling again about 12 years ago when a friend gave me her old bike. Now I don’t know what I’d do without the option to cycle. I have campaigned for safer cycle routes in Croydon. In 2007 I […]

Posted on 10 April 2015 | 2 CommentsBelow is the response from Oliver Birtill at TfL to our response to the Waddon Flyover Proposals Dear Croydon Cycling Campaign, Thank you for your letter and your keen interest and engagement with us during the recent consultation on the proposals for a road modernisation scheme at Fiveways Croydon. The specific points you have raised will be carefully considered by the project team as the scheme develops. However, we would like to take this opportunity to respond more generally to your concerns. Traffic demand and modelling Overall, the TfL Road Modernisation Plan will decrease road […]

Posted on 28 March 2015 | 6 CommentsPhotos Sourced from : Alternative DfT and A View From The Cycle Path As the council moves towards legalising cycling in Park Hill Park, I’ve been asked if the Croydon Cycling Campaign thinks this is an important change worth fighting for. It’s a difficult question to field, as opening up the route via Park Hill is hardly going to open up the flood gates to hundreds of people cycling through it into Croydon. However, context is key, and given the context, it’s crucial. The Sustrans Connect2 route aims to connect up green spaces across the […]

Posted on 15 March 2015 | 2 CommentsBelow is the complete consultation response submitted by the Croydon Cycling Campaign to TfL regarding their proposals for a new flyover and road widening in the Waddon/fiveways area. Motivation for the Scheme The Croydon Cycling Campaign (CCC) notes that the Fiveways scheme currently being consulted on has the purpose of increasing traffic capacity in the area in order to meet an expected increase in traffic due to economic and population growth. The CCC opposes this aim on the following grounds It is unclear why the scheme is necessary as we know that the current road […]

Posted on 25 January 2015 | 2 CommentsThe Croydon Cycling Campaign has welcomed the ambition and principle of the proposed changes to the double roundabouts at the end of Crystal Palace Parade (consultation now closed), but has said they fall short of the needed safety standard. You can see the plans for yourself here. The Croydon Cycling Campaign was delighted to see TFL and Southwark put forward some plans for two adjacent Dutch roundabouts, utilising the latest tools available to junction designers including the new ‘zoucan’ (zebra/toucan) crossing. However, on closer inspection the plans introduce new dangers and fail to address the […]

Posted on 25 January 2015 | 1 CommentIn the run up to the 2014 local elections the Labour party, led by now council leader Tony Newman, signed up to our space4cycling campaign in Croydon. It is now time to remind Tony of that commitment to cycling to make sure he delivers on his promises. Please sign this petition to let him know you are waiting for the council to deliver safe space for cycling in Croydon Croydon Space4Cycling Petition

Posted on 5 June 2014 | 2 CommentsThe Croydon Cycling Campaign is a small volunteer run organisation whose members have been very busy over the past year, developing our policies, lobbying politicians, engaging with other voluntary organisations and working with council officers. All of this effort has just been laying the foundations for a cycling revolution in Croydon, foundations that we believe are now firmly in place. Here is why we are excited about the opportunity that now presents itself The deputy leader of the party now controlling the council is so supportive of our campaign that he signed up all the […]
