Members of the Croydon Cycling Campaign have joined forces with “20s plenty” and the “Grange Hill Road Community” to back the council’s plans to introduce 20mph speed limits on residential roads in Croydon North.
We have been speaking to residents outside the rail station in Thornton Heath, handing out flyers and delivering leaflets to houses in the area. We’ve met residents as young as 6 and as old as 93 and the response has been overwhelmingly supportive. We’ve listened to people’s concerns about speeding and noise on residential streets and helped them complete the council’s survey on the issue.
The consultation closes on 24th June. We’ll be out again on the 20th June and welcome any support. If you can help speak to residents, hand out flyers or deliver door to door please e-mail croydon@lcc.org.uk
There is generally a 20 mph speed limit in Southwark and driving through Dulwich, as I often do, I see that nobody, including buses and black cabs, observes the 20 mph limit, continuing to drive at 30 mph or faster. They know the police don’t have enough resources to enforce it. I am the only one driving at 20 and I get angry impatient BMW drivers who drive up my tailpipe and then overtake dangerously, which makes collisions more likely.
