4 intrepid riders made their way to Greenwich where the route follows the ravensbourne river and is largely on paths through SE London up to the river,in a very pleasant way.
So the group went via the Railway Park,South Norwood Country Park and then followed the river at Cator Park and through lower Sydenham and Lewisham and Deptford to Greenwich and the Cutty Sark which looked resplendent and proud following its face lift…a quick coffee near the river and a quick sprint up Maze Hill and across Blackheath to the Princess of Wales our lunchtime destination.Despite lousy service the food and venue are ideal and a great place for a cycling refuel stop! Emma ‘s cheesecake was, i’m informed, worth the wait !
Then it was back down a nice hill into bustling Lewisham and back onto the trail…on the second attempt everyone managed to get up the corksrew bridge in ladywell without stopping !!
The weather held off and the group seperated in South norwood and Addiscombe leaving Allie and me feeling obliged to finish with a well earned pint at the Tamworth Arms!
Greetings, Kristian – I’ve just read your report on the Waterlink Way ride last month … you don’t mention (perhaps becuase you didn’t know about) the wrong-way-round sign in South Norwood Country Park? On the north-south path alongside Elmers End Road, just south of the cemetery entrance, there’s a Sustrans/Royal Bank of Scotland sign on the west side of the pathway which tells you that Gatwick is to the north and Greenwich to the south.
It is believed that this results from the installer deciding that if he put it in where he was told to, it’d have its back to those entering the park from Elmers End Road so he’d better put it facing them … without recognising that, to do so, he’d have to rotate it …
You can’t get the staff!
