  • Croydon’s Traffic Management Cabinet Committee meets 4-5 times a year and is responsible for approving or rejecting proposed changes to Croydon’s transport infrastructure. That makes these meetings very significant for cyclists. What you may not know, is that you can attend these meetings as an observer, or maybe even speak for or against one of the measures on the agenda. The agenda and minutes for these meetings are also available online. If you want to know how projects are approved/rejected, it is worth attending one of these meetings to get a feel for the local […]

  • On Friday the Croydon Cycling Campaign met with council officers on site at Mitcham Road to discuss the redesign of the road.  We have previously suggested a re-design involving bay parked cars and a two-way cycle track between such parking and the pavement, which you can see here.  This was an exciting opportunity to discuss this possibility with the designer, the biking borough officer and the highway engineer who are looking at the problems with Mitcham Road.  A warning to reader’s though.  This is going to get very, very detailed. As a little refresher, here’s […]

  • Yes its more on Mitcham road again, where this week a car has mistaken a traffic island for an overtaking lane. Local cyclist Peter “4ChordsNoNet” Mead recorded this footage of the resulting carnage.  Look carefully and you’ll see the ghost bike we placed at this exact location two months earlier.  Doesn’t that just make you want to go for a spin to visit Merton?  More on the cause of this crash when we hear back from the council on what happened. Meanwhile we’ve finally managed to get hold of the response of Croydon Council chief exec […]

  • LCC began to get ready to take loveLondon-GoDutch to the next level on Saturday with a conference focusing on the Borough Elections in 2014.  Estimates on attendance varied between 80 and 120, and I am happy to say Croydon was well represented with three members in attendance.  First of all, a big thank you to all the staff and volunteers who organised it, as it really was a fantastic, thought-provoking event. A number of themes crept up repeatedly throughout the day, with much advice and guidelines forming for how borough groups need to operate.  Engage […]

  • Croydon Council recently launched a consultation regarding its health and wellbeing strategy for the next 5 years. You can read it in full here.  Most of the goals in this strategy would be easier to meet if cycling played a more significant role in the transport strategy, but cycling doesn’t manage to get a single mention in this document.  I have sent the below response to the consultation team in the hope they will correct this mistake. Dear Sir/Madam, I would like to draw your attention to what I see as a great oversight in […]
